"TICK
INVASION"
The tick and flea
population have moved to the Keys. We have
treated numerous dogs
and helped eliminate the home infestation. There are steps to take when an outbreak occurs. It can be a costly experience for the first timers that suddenly find little crabby critters crawling in their homes. Let us help you take the steps to control your problem. Ticks can lay thousands of eggs which can make the treatments seem endless. Therefore proper steps should be taken. Typical habitats for ticks are grass, bushes and undergrowth, especially along wildlife paths. Ticks can wait weeks for a host, becoming aroused by the heat and CO2 the host gives off and then wait for the host to brush up against the vegetation and drop or climb onto the animals fur. Ticks do not fly or jump but crawl slowly.
If they fail, they
fall on the
ground, crawl up again on a blade of grass or twig and wait for
the next host. Keeping your yard trimmed and free of debris is very important. Also pets bedding areas need to be washed and kept clean. As a tick is in the larvae stage it is about the size of a pepper speck making them difficult to see. After a blood meal they look more like small poppy seeds and usually crawl up the wall. Areas of base boards and furniture are great hiding places for these tiny blood suckers. Carpet gives them the life of luxury and sanctuary and can be tough to control without deep cleaning. The big raisin looking ones are females full of blood looking to find a hidden place to lay eggs and the cycle starts over. Where to begin this nightmare? Plan your assault. Exterminators will set you up on multiple visits, working from the inside out to the yard chasing the pests out of your house not into your home.
Eggs will hatch 5-6
days then the second visit is done. Your pet
will need to be off the
property for several hours which is the time they should be getting treated themselves. Dips and removal of ticks are just the basics; a preventive control of topical application and collars is recommended. Ask your veterinarian which product is best for you. Cats and dogs cannot use the same products and can be fatal if applied. A product on the market
which is inexpensive and can be used on both
dogs and cats
as well the yard is Sevin 5 dust, found in the garden section of most stores. This has worked for me on flea and tick issues in pea rock and sandy areas. Also easy to apply to pets hair and bedding areas. Read directions before applying. For help with infestations and removal of parasites on your pets call us and
